Mole Cricket Hunting Wasp (Larra bicolor: Sphecidae) Ca. 2.2 cm long. Working on Green Poinsettia (Euphorbia dentata: Euphorbiaceae).

A Green Heron leaps from its perch in pursuit of a fish in Tortuguero National Park, Costa Rica. It did catch the fish.

The little forktail is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae.

I was really lucky to see the Grey Heron hunting. When he caught this small snake the prey fought back - but in the end the heron finished the job.

A bit disappointed not to do better than this. For a whole 3 seconds this goshawk hovered over the water about 10 metres away trying to snatch an Eurasian Teal out of the water. No matter how much I bit my tongue I couldn't shake of the D7100s focus from the background to the subject. As it went...

Then he must have seen something, for he suddenly dropped into the reeds..... .... continues tomorrow.

The RFF in Lincolnshire hunting this morning

It took ages, but I finally got a shot of a heron catching his tea :)

Was happy to get an ok shot of this Kestrel with its prey...looked like a Vole maybe? Any thoughts?

An adult Crested Serpent-eagle carries a green vine snake Ahaetulla nasuta.

This is the moment that the bird has decided to come in and take the fish. It does a little dance in the air just before it swoops down and takes the bait.

The red fish this white tailed eagle is about to grab is a delicacy in most parts here I use them to feed the local eagles. Not such a calm day this one. sometimes it is not easy to get pics like this when the boat is so unstable as on this day.

This was taken from a boat on a perfectly calm and bright day. It is for me the defining moment just before the claws close around the fish in the water. These birds are just so magnificent I will never get tired of photographing them. The good thing is they are right on my door step.

iso 200 f2.8 1/4000 d300 sigma 120-300mm. A perfect still day out on the sea with good sunlight and it all came together perfectly. I just wish I had zoomed out a bit more to get more of the reflection in the picture but you cannot have it all can you. This is one of the local white tailed...
