Took its first flight 10 days earlier. Still traveling around with Mom and Pop, finding some food on its own, but not above begging. Had a sibling that I haven't seen for a day or two.
Yep. That's not a drop of water on this young gull's bill. It's an icicle. This was towards the end of my assigned stretch of river and docks. By this time I'd finished my finger-warming coffee and could absolutely sympathize with the gull. My fingers (again) felt icicle-tipped as well.

Today's visit before his first migration-- 1st-year male Ruby-throated Hummingbird (next year at this time, that throat will be iridescent red; assuming he live through all of those crazy migratory hazards). Fly well lil' feller.
I can never get over the under tail coverts (inner tail feathers) that look like they have many bird icons individually painted on them. Not so with adult Peregrines.
Took this shot in a small forest in Nekemte. I saw one other bird like it in the area, but haven't seen any photos on this forum or as a result of Google searches that look like this bird. Hope it helps others in the future who are curious about ID.
