    There was a lookout high up on a cliff where we were able to look down on all the frigatebirds and tropicbirds gliding below us and at eye-level.

    There are 50 million (or possibly 100 million from one source) red crabs on Christmas Island, and once a year around November they all migrate to the coast to lay their eggs. We didn't see that of course but they were everywhere and you had to drive very carefully to avoid them.

    Also known as Coconut Crabs. They can measure up to one meter across and weigh up to 4kg. They are terrestrial but spend their first month in the sea. They can live for over 60 years.
