jackal buzzard

I went to a Birdpark close to Munich today and managed to do a coloured study of the Jackal buzzard. What beautiful birds they are! It was a sunny but unusually cold and windy day today, and wasn`t easy to work outdoors.

Another lifer. We saw quite a few, especially around Dullstroom and Verloren Vallei (Lost Valley) at the start of the trip. They're a bit more colorful than Common Buzzards (which we saw even more of). Too bad this was the closest shot I got. I'm down to distant lifer documentation shots from...

Seems to be the most common raptor of the wheatfields of the Cape, where there are few trees.

Another short lunch time visit to the Helderberg Nature Reserve in Somerset West, South Africa gave sight to one of the resident Jackal Buzzards.

Endemic throughout much of South Africa and southern Namibia.

Endemic, named after its Jackal-like call.

Pity about the cut-off wingtips!

Heavily cropped capture as bird was far away, but at least I got a shot!
