    Jack with Holm Oak

Well Peeps, Just been to the Docs and had me MOT, and a flu-jab...Ouch!!! The last of our stragglers from the weekends party should be leaving today, so hopefully we will be back to normal soon. Along Rock-A-Nore theres two quite big Holm Oak trees, and the Jackdaws have been...

Well Peeps, After I'd finished me jankers out in the garden yesterday, I had a shower, got changed and had a short beach walk. All the usual suspects about, but good to get out with me rig for a while.

    In four corners...

.... well nearly! LOL One of the adult gulls had gone away for a bit of peace. I actually found it difficult to get them all in this shot, as they kept moving about, and quite quickly too.

  13. Darn! They ate it all up!

Darn! They ate it all up!

We didn't leave many crumbs for the begging birds, aside from those husband's cousin's husband tossed to them as we ate. This jackdaw seems a bit upset with us about that. After we left, the birds swarmed over the picnic table, then took off disappointed to look for another picnicking group.

    Rainy day restaurant guest

Ahhh! Vacation time! Finally got my desk nearly cleared at about 1130 pm last night. Only one dissertation revision to skim through and a PhD student to stay in touch with via email through the summer. That's the least work I've had with me on holidays in years! And I'm taking 8 whole weeks off...
  19. One Eyed Jack

    One Eyed Jack

A new garden bird for us yesterday...Not a new species, but a one eyed Jackdaw. It seemed really strange seeing this bird with just the one blue eye, but it appeared to be coping with its handicap quite well...Birds really are clever creatures.

    Jack On The Roof

Well Peeps, We got home from our recent trip on thursday afternoon. Last night we had Chris, Julie, and the two wee girls Maggie and Iris arrive. Tonight Hazel and I are babysitting the girls while Chris and Julie go to a wedding. I guess having the little uns here, will be an excuse to go out...
  21. Mmmmm! Suetball!

    Mmmmm! Suetball!

The jackdaws scoped out the feeders, but didn't attempt to feed there. I think they worked out that they're just not as acrobatic as the magpies. So I hung one large suetball directly on the IV pole, leaning against the hanging wire for the peanut cage. That made it stable enough that the...
  22. Scoping the feeders

    Scoping the feeders

Maybe it was all that magpie flapping that finally caught the jackdaws' attention? Or the flocks of sparrows and tits? The jackdaws hang out on the neighbors' roof and I think nest in the chimney there, but I'd never seen one in our garden until a few days ago. This guy was looking at that suet...

    Blue Sky Jack

Well Peeps, I had a great day out yesterday on Brownsea Island...Lots of clicks, but unfortunately not many different species. The weather stayed fine all day, so that was a bonus. Lots of action on the Tern colonies, and mostly way too close for the 500 prime, I guess I...
