My wife brought this Jay to my attention. She was worried that it had injured itself by flying into a window. I just assumed it was sunbathing but it did have a bit of trouble standing up and flying off so it could have been a bit dazed.

Off to Lake Tkern for a few days tomorrow morning. Hope to see Bitterns, Bearded Tits and Marsh Harriers.

The most noteworthy thing about this picture is that it was taken during a balloon trip but I think it's interesting that the Turkish subspecies of Jays have black heads.

On Wednesday these was a flock of Waxwings in the grounds of the school where I work. They stayed for several hours but it was too dark and misty for photographs even if I had had a camera. Not quite as bad today but too dark to photograph the 2 Red Squirrels on the feeders even at 1600 ISO. I...
