When I first saw this woodie, I thought it was a female, but now looking closer at an enlarged picture, it's quite clear that it's a juvenile - there's just a few red feathers left on the crown.
I'm not sure if it's possible to sort the sex of them at this stage though.

Okay this is my last upload for a week, I'm going to Sicily for a holiday. Not sure if I will get any bird snaps but if I do I will share on my return. Thanks to every ones comments since I have joined, I really appreciate them.
My 2 juv GSW's are still daily visitors so had another session with them, getting dangerous as the Sparrowhawk is almost as regular a visitor and grabbed a house sparrow not 2 feet from the GSW whilst it was drinking last week.
This was the lucky chap whose mother was getting soaked in the rain storm, to bring him is din-dins.
Not the greatest shot in the world, but he only popped out of the tree for a second, and it was still dull after the rain.
