    Fan dance - step 1

This is part one of a 6-part series. This time I haven't entirely made up the story. The shots were actually taken in posted order (so reading right to left). But of course, there's always room for interpretation. We can never know what the bird was actually thinking, but I doubt he was thinking...
  9. Isn't anybody coming to feed me?

Isn't anybody coming to feed me?

To stave off boredom with this little guy, I've turned a few shots into a "story strip". This one is about my take on why he was sitting there chirping insistently. He was flying and his plumage was clearly in transition towards adulthood, but he still had some speckles, some down, and...
  10. You, for instance!

    You, for instance!

Why don't you bring me something to eat? Or maybe rather - Why don't you leave? You're scaring my parents away so they're not bringing me anything to eat!
  11. Dejected

    Dejected

Last shot in today's "story strip". Remember - I made up the order of these shots to create the story. They didn't actually occur 1-2-3 like this. In fact, "dejected" was the last shot of a series of stretches that will become another "story strip" called Fan Dance.
  12. Almost grown up

    Almost grown up

This juvie robin was chirping for attention at only just beyond arm's reach in the woods at the edge of the mudflats. He was utterly charming and kept posing for about 200 shots. I'm sure I'll manage to bore you with him over the next few weeks, but I'll try to intersperse with others so as to...

    There's Room at the Inn

One field I visit has been full of juvenile Bluebirds all Summer, and I noticed groups hanging out at nest boxes. I assume they were siblings, and that may be the case here. f6.3 1/400 ISO 500
  14. Muuum, "Is this how you fly"?

Muuum, "Is this how you fly"?

Another one from the Goldfinch family amongst the sunflowers. The adult was close by but not near enough to be included in the shot. Have a good week-end everyone!
  15. its shrike time

    its shrike time

but not in my garden, it seems that the bulbuls are doing a good job in chasing them away, but in the college area there are many, mostly lesser grey and red backed, only one masked in the past week. generally the migration is a bit slow until now. Hope you like this.
  16. But Muuum, I'm full!!

    But Muuum, I'm full!!

I nearly chose the title, 'Forced Feeding'. As I was taking these shots I couldn't believe how many seeds this adult Goldfinch was trying to push down the juvenile's gullet! Not a good background, I know, but we (my wife) planted the sunflowers on a south facing wall for very good...

    Young redstart

Why do young birds look so different? Doesn't make identifying easier any easier for beginners!

  25. Common Gull Juveniles

    Common Gull Juveniles

AAP I don't 'do' gulls but I think these two were too old to be that year's brood and I'm really not sure if they were born on my patch at all. Many times I thought there were a couple sitting on nests but never saw any baby ones until 2010. Loads of gulls seemed to like the area and would...
