Plenty of Roe Deer in the fields and woodland close by, I really enjoy observing them from a distance and grabbing the occasional shot. Here's one from about 18 months ago.
This young fellow was at Lake Claremont the other day, apparently waiting for some more breakfast. Shortly before I had closely observed an adult bird with blooded talons, so I assume he had already eaten once. he wa not at all concerned by my presence
There were loads of Whooper Swans around that day and this youngster had drifted in near the hide.
The light was quite good for a change and I'm quite pleased with the result.
It won't be long before they're heading back north for the summer, will it.
A few years back, this juvenile(warbler or prinia? I am not sure which) took shelter in our flower pot having lost its way. There was a cat hovering around nearby, which we made sure didn't get close to the bird while it was with us. Every now and then, the bird would call out to its mother in...
And no, the river water here doesn't go into the local beer, let alone Olympia beer :eek!: Just that it's the water that made me keep this image. The bird, sadly, isn't quite in focus.
I think I mentioned the petroglyphs at Alta before ...? One thing the museum there teaches is that the people who carved them divided their cosmos into three worlds - an underworld below ground and in the water, a surface world, and the heavens. Sea birds, especially diving ducks, were worshiped...
Inca Tern (Larosterna inca) Juvenile. Photographed on a shore platform at the base of a sea cliff along the Pacific Ocean at Pucusana, Lima Department, Peru.
Was this juv herring gull nearsighted? Or has he simply misunderstood? He was begging in entirely the wrong direction. There was an adult gull behind him and me standing off to his side with the last few crumbs of peanuts in a bag, but he was begging towards the empty bench. Maybe he's begged at...
While I was still focussing on the Song Sparrow suddenly, out of the blue, this young Red-tailed Hawk turned up above my head and eyed me up. What a contrast, the beautiful big bird and small bird in an instant.
I thought that the striking looks of this stunning bird, especially its head and its amazing eyes, would warrant a follow up from a previous post where the bird's posture is very different.
It couldn't possibly get any better that day, but it did because this little guy presented itself late in the afternoon to a small group of admirers. He obviously enjoyed the attention and gave us ample time to take our shots.
