That reed stem, betnt over a small chanel, seemed to the perfect place for the kinfisher to sit on. From there he had a good view of the water surface beneath.
The previous photo was taken in the morning when temperature was at about -6 C. Several hours later the sun was shining an temperature was at about 12 C.
The Kingfisher came in the same place and started the search for fish. He looked happyer.
The cold night has covered reeds and perches with a layer of hoarfrost. Fog was everywhere arround. The Kingfisher was looking at the frozen water below. No way to catch a fish!
Sorting through some old stuff and came across this!
The Kf dived and caught this bug, which somehow got
free and crawled onto the bird's bill, the next shot in
the sequence shows it dropping off, back into the water!
The Kf watched it fall and didn't bother trying to catch it again
In the morning I spent more than three hours in the hide, in the water, to be close enough to the place where I expected him to come. Finaly the Kingfisher arrived and stood several minuts. I was happy to take several photos.
It was the first time I went to this lake for photographing birds. I saw the Kingfisher from far. He saw me too and flew away. I went close to the place I saw him and waited without hide. After a while the bird came back, looked at me and flew away again. I hardly had time to take several photos.
