  1. It seemed to be the fashion....

It seemed to be the fashion....

..... to break the mirror that day! This was pretty distant, way over the far side of the loch, but I was quite pleased with the result. The next images the other Greylag set off too, but I preferred this shot.
  2. Break the mirror, why don't you!!

Break the mirror, why don't you!!

The water was perfectly smooth until this Moorhen sailed in LOL. Bit busy this morning, so posting early. I'll catch up later.
  3. Redshank

    Redshank

It's hard to stay away from Kinnordy during April, there is so much going on there. A Redshank very kindly came close to the hide on this visit, and in lovely light too. They're usually way out on the bog bean islands and difficult to get decent shots of.
  4. Shoveler

    Shoveler

These guys don't always come very close to the hide, so this was a treat, especially in the nice light we had that day. Would you believe his eye really was the colour of my text - amazing, isn't it. I'm early on parade today, as I've a hospital visit this morning... I'll try and catch up with...
  5. Mute Swan and pals

    Mute Swan and pals

This was a bit distant, even so I could have cropped it a bit tighter, but then I would have lost the natural framing, that first made me look at this image and keep it. I do so hope what I've done meets with your approval.
  6. Little Grebe

    Little Grebe

.... or Dabchick as i like to call them!! These guys are very rarely seen in the area around the hide (in fact rarely seen at all as they're usually on the far side of the loch!), so I was delighted to spot a pair of them. Well eventually it turned into a pair when another popped up beside...
  7. Osprey fishing

    Osprey fishing

Told you it was a good day there that day. I've tried for a picture like this for years but have always just missed it, or it was so far away there was no detail at all. It was still a bit distant, so a big crop, one day it'll be right in front of the hide!! Sorry it's not a head on shot Kim!;)
  8. Saturday fun....

    Saturday fun....

.... or Photo Bomber I didn't see this until I looked through the images on download. Of course I was taking a picture of the Osprey flying high above the loch. Martins and swallows had just arrived and wasn't sure if this was a House or Sand Martin, so asked in the ID forum if it was possible...
  9. Marsh Harriers

    Marsh Harriers

Goodness... what a visit to Kinnordy this was. New Spring arrivals and birds everywhere. The Marsh Harriers gave us wonderful flight views and here I managed to get both of them in frame, although very distant sadly. Not the best of images perhaps, but I'm real pleased with it.
  10. Chaffinch

    Chaffinch

... from one special finch, to a normal one. Just liked his colours and the setting! I paid quite a few visits to Kinnordy in the latter part of March, hoping to see the arrival of Ospreys, didn't but Gus got one early April. He deserves it, with the amount of hours he spends keeping an eye on...
  11. Brambling

    Brambling

Couldn't let that folder pass without showing you my Brambling picture... I so rarely get a chance to photograph these guys... usually I only see them messing on the ground in a flock of other finches. I was quite pleased with this one.
  12. Cousins

    Cousins

Trying to whizz through my Spring folders to get to May and my holiday. But couldn't let these two handsome guys slip through the net. I've a soft spot for both Teal and Shoveler; the smallest against one of the largest of our ducks. Not the greatest of pictures though, as they were rather...
  13. Come on Down - it's great here!

Come on Down - it's great here!

Sorry, couldn't resist that title. That goose was actually quite active. A mid-March visit to Kinnordy, so little greenery yet, which somehow makes images look a little washed out. Finally said goodbye to Gillian and Ian yesterday after a lovely lunch with them. They had a great evening...
  14. Saturday fun.....

    Saturday fun.....

.... or Open eye .... or canna think of a better one!! Just thought it funny how i captured this Robin with his eye centred between the twigs.
  15. Frozen feet

    Frozen feet

Had a brief and very cold visit to Kinnordy in early March. A real cold snap with frozen water. This was the only species that I took a picture of. There was a Bittern showing but too far off and too well camouflaged to capture. I picked this one from the series, even though they're not...
  16. Saturday fun.....

    Saturday fun.....

.... or Keep up!! .... or They can be a pain at times A rare arrival of a Cormorant right outside the hide at Kinnordy (they're usually at the far side of the loch). This guy spent quite a few minutes diving and fishing, then took off. Didn't do too well with the timings and framing, did I!
  17. Greylag

    Greylag

It rather looks like this guy isn't too sure about entering the water..... it was a rather cold day!! This was taken during my lunch break in the East Hide.
  18. Mute Swan

    Mute Swan

After an hour of standing at the feeders, my back was giving out, so I joined Phil in the East Hide. I've not managed to walk that far for years! At least I was able to sit down for a late lunch LOL. A pair of Mute Swans came fairly close to the water's edge but not close enough together to get...
  19. Another accident

    Another accident

I very nearly passed this picture over too before looking closely at it. Just thought it was another, not brilliant, Greenfinch with a Chaffy. However, when studying which image to upload today, I suddenly realised it was a Brambling on the feeder. I'd no idea I'd got a Brambling picture that...
  20. A lesson for us all

    A lesson for us all

I was just about to edit this picture and do a completely different crop on this image (i.e. cut the top of the feeder out) when I saw the Coal Tit up there!! I'd no idea that guy was in the picture as well! Just goes to show we shouldn't be too keen to delete images, without taking a good look...
  21. Redwing

    Redwing

Not the greatest of my pictures, but I wouldn't have got this one without Andy's help - the first few were complete silhouettes!!! I'd got settings in a muddle, and thought I needed to do a minus exposure bias.... ooops!!! It was nice to see a Redwing sitting at the top of the tree, shame he...
  22. Moorhen

    Moorhen

During the excitement of watching the Great Egret (he delighted us for ages), this Moorhen swam past the hide, in beautifully calm water. It would have been disrespectful not to take his picture, wouldn't it?
  23. Greylag

    Greylag

The reed bed just outside the hide has been cut back and I suddenly realised that there was a sleepy Greylag lying there. Fortunately he later woke up so I managed a picture of him with his head up.
  24. A first

    A first

Although not a Lifer, as I'd seen one some 10 years before in Lithuania, this is my first picture in the Gallery, it was a first for Kinnordy and, I believe, a first for Angus (not sure about Scotland). Someone had reported it a day or two before and it stayed around for a couple of days...
  25. They're off!

    They're off!

Something spooked this group of Lapwing - they flew around for a minute or two before settling back on the bog bean. Never saw what it was that scared them though. Even though they were a bit distant, I was quite pleased to get such recognisable birds in the frame.
