Just finished this Gouache portrait of a Lanner falcon, as a demonstration for a friend. This has been a solely brush painting without initial pencil drawing and is based on video footage I took in a Wildpark last year.
Blue Biro pen drawing following one of those kids 'learn how to draw' books of what turned out to be some unknown hybridized Falcon - maybe even an entirely new species! Hahaha :))

A composition Ive just finished , showing the courting behaviour of the female Lanner falcon (ssp.feldeggii), of the european subspecies, and is based on video footage taken in southern Italy.
After three weeks of "hard" brushwork, I managed to finish this commissioned composition, which is based on preliminary sketches, and a lot of research.
Lanners are stunning birds to watch. This individual caught us unawares on a "bush stop". By the time I got back to the jeep & got the camera it was more distant & distorted by heat-haze. The bird gained height on a thermal then suddenly broke off to chase a "collared dove" disappearing rapidly...
