I guess this is a second or third-winter Herring Gull L.a.argenteus. It's rather unhelpful that all the ID books ("Collins" etc) depict gulls in flight almost exclusively from above :-( Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well. John- Jonno52

I almost missed seeing this bird, having leaned out of the window and looked at the top of the next block, just in case. Since I started digital photography seven years ago, there's only ever been a Carrion Crow there, but on this occasion, there was this whacking great Herring Gull :-) Thank...- Jonno52
