    European Herring Gulls

A bit distant (348 ft) but they're big birds, so not heaviest of crops. Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well, and good birding! John

    European Herring Gull

I guess this is a second or third-winter Herring Gull L.a.argenteus. It's rather unhelpful that all the ID books ("Collins" etc) depict gulls in flight almost exclusively from above :-( Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well. John

Another shot of the Herring Gull which visited a neighbour's roof in January. The whitish circles on the tiles are lichens, not gull droppings ;)

Thanks for the comments on the adult Herring Gull on my neighbour's roof which I posted earlier. It was accompanied by this immature bird (1st-winter?), to my eye a more attractive looking bird. Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well. John

Yesterday afternoon I'd been photographing distant gulls in flight, and was about to give up for the day, when this bird landed just 25 yards away on a neighbour's roof. Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well. John
