    Checking the sky

On a longer exploration of their hillside property, we found a Laughing Kookaburra at the top of a tree. Fortunately there were many trees to support myself for the high picture. Is he looking for trouble do you think.

Go to the picnic area by Serpentine Dam southeast of Perth and the parrots and Kookaburras will eat with you!

The next morning a Laughing Kookaburra was waiting to greet me as I headed off for breakfast.

This was an unexpected bonus as we left the Square-tailed Kite site.

This guy was contemplating life on a power line over the car park. Quite attractive birds, in an ugly sort of way, these Laughing Kookaburras Sorry for my absence over the last few days, but following close on the heels of my nephew's departure, I had a visit from my cousin and her husband...

    Kookie

This was a very naughty Laughing Kookaburra, we sat down to have a cup of tea and some of Judy's lovely cake... I didn't even know he was there before he flew over my shoulder and pinched the cake out of my fingers, just as it was heading to my mouth!!! Ratbag!!!

    Is this.....

...... a Laughing Kookaburra's Saturday face do you think. I'd brought some luck to Hans & Judy in the form of some rain - they'd not had any for so, so long. This seemed to be the kookaburra's favourite garden perch but do you think it was me that he was put out by? Saturday Fun
  16. Not laughing

    Not laughing

He couldn't even raise a smile, as he had his mouth full and, of course, there was the danger of the Noisy Miners (one in front and another out of shot) pinching it off him if he dropped it LOL.
  17. Serenading

    Serenading

He was sitting on a branch singing away, trying to get his lady friend to join him, which she did a minute or so later. Ken and I had stopped at this point to look at a large termite nest which is just above him. Apparently Kookaburras nest in them too, so I don't know if they were using this...

    Introduction

One thing (well one among very many) I didn't know before I went to Western Australia, was that Laughing Kookaburras weren't native to the state, they were introduced. I just thought they were all over (hands up who else thought that!) So here was one resting in the bushes round Lake...
  22. Not laughing?

    Not laughing?

We had a bit more time the next day for wandering around John & Dora's property. I'm not so sure this Kookaburra had landed in the same tree as yesterday's cuckoo? As I remember leaning against the wall of the house to steady myself for this full zoom up high shot. A bird I'd wanted to...
  23. Laugher

    Laugher

When we got back to the camp there was still a little light left and I spotted this kookaburra sitting on the roof of one of the cabins. He'd obviously been waiting to welcome us home, hadn't he LOL
  24. Looking thoughtful

    Looking thoughtful

On another of the power lines I spotted this pretty Laughing Kookaburra. He looked a bit too serious to be laughing though, don't you think. I suppose he could be wondering where to find a girlfriend for the coming season!
  25. Looking serious

    Looking serious

.... well they do have a very serious looking bill, don't they! Another bird that greeted our arrived was this Laughing Kookaburra, he was sitting on the railing round the verandah of the kitchen block where we were having a cuppa and a lovely piece of Judy's cake.
