    It is frustrating when you discover too late, that IS was turned off on your 500 lens, when handholding it on 1/200 second - AND encountering a rare bird like the LSW. This is one of two with acceptable sharpness, but the bird is partly obscured by a branch. Nice encounter anyway :smile:

    I finally caught up with several at the weekend, firstly at Lower Bittell, and then here, at Whitacre Heath. This one was hopping from tree to tree around a clearing in the woods.

    In the morning there were again very cold, - 30 C, but I decided that I have to go to forest to find Woodpeckers. I found Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and it was very alive in the spite of coldness. Next night and morning will be cold, but after that the temperature will rise between -10 C to -15 C..

    Not a very good image, but it is only the second time EVER, I have seen this bird, and first time I got a shot. The fieldguide says that this bird is very shy and "more often heard than seen". Europes smallest woodpecker about the size of a Nuthatch - I think this is a female.
