This Limpkin did not have to look far for a meal. Lake Jackson in 2015 had a huge population of giant apple snails. That population has since collapsed, so I see fewer of these birds at the lake.

Three of these limpkins were feeding by the boat launch this morning. Because it was so gray few boaters were out on the lake. Fear of lightening I think. So no traffic and out came the limpkins to feed.
She has built a nest in this area and I also spied her four little fluffy chicks that she is caring for. They were fairly well hidden. Apparently, these birds are ground nesters.
