The light was just about perfect for this little grebe, who prefers a little channel off the main lake and doesnt mind you getting to close to him as long as your quiet.
The Little Grebe is a small water bird with a pointed bill. The adult is unmistakable in summer, predominantly dark above with its rich, rufous colour neck, cheeks and flanks, and bright yellow gape. The rufous is replaced by a dirty brownish grey in non-breeding and juvenile birds.

I was using my Sigma 300 lens with a 2X converter attached when I saw this grebe dive and come up with a fish. This was one of those occasions when I wished I was with the 300 as a bare lens or was using zoom. Despite inching back to try and get the whole bird in shot I just did not managed it...

We had a good day at Rye Harbour yesterday, not too much up close, mostly too far for the Bigma's range. Did get a few shots, but it was just nice to see Hazel get out with her scope again. Good to see a few of these little diving birds about, most at a distance, but this guy/gal did...
