This little green heron hunts down by the neighborhood dock. There is an abundance of lotus lily pads near the dock and he seems to like walking on them while he is fishing.
Yesterday evening down at the neighborhood dock, the little green heron spent quite awhile walking on the lotus pads hunting for fish. He was very good at it too. Here he is in serious concentration mode.

Down by the neighborhood dock this morning. A little blue heron finally ran him off, as it wanted to also hunt that area. The little green squawked and flew off.
These birds are "widespread" geographically across the U.S. However, considered somewhat "uncommon." I am always excited to see one of these chunky billed herons. And in the right light, their feathers are somewhat greenish.
A good friend snapped this marvelous picture of this green heron and sent a copy to me. I ran it through my digital artwork program and came out with this "watercolor". I will be sending her a copy back for Christmas.
