This little owl took his time to pose for my camera. I had to remove the extender, so closeby was this bird. This picture is not cropped so you might get an idea about the distance, it was about 4 meters.
The round shapes right and left of the bird are carwheels from a car passsing by.
Cheers...
A new patch tick for me. I came across a pair of them whilst wandering around the park yesterday morning. They gave very good views for around 20 minutes as they leap-frogged through the trees by the cycleway before doubling back the way we'd come.
What bright yellow eyes you have... all the better for staring at you, my dear!
It was doing the head bobbing action at the time, trying to work out what was looking up and making funny clicking sounds.
Yesterday, after failing to get a decent shot of a gropper, I went to the pub for some liquid inspiration, and following that, decided to look in on the local little owl.
What a treat, as it flew from the usual tree into one in the sun, and allowed me to take a few wonderful shots, as it...
I came accross this Owl on a remote Mountain track in the north of the island when I stopped to get a shot a four wheel drive vehicle pulled up behind me a young Blonde got out the drivers side and gave me the most awful mouthfull in a very County accent about blocking the road, She got back in...
Another low light dusk shot, hence not very good quality I'm afraid.
Getting quite fond of him/her!
Have seen two together a couple of times so maybe we'll see chicks one day.

This lttle owl roosts in an outbuilding in a paddock behind our house, so we are getting to be good friends. But he doesn't look too pleased to see me this time!

It's a wonder I spotted this little owl, as it snoozed amongst the branches, blending in perfectly against the rough bark with its feather detail.
It was like one of those stereogram 3D images where you stare and eventually a picture is revealed, when you go cross-eyed... only this time I was...
Whilst awake, and apart from giving me the evils, this little owl was very wary of passing crows, of which there was the usual abundance. Not sure why though, as it was so well camouflaged, I doubt they knew it was there.
After the noise of the barking dog had died down, the little owl took another look at me before settling down to sleep again. It certainly looked content on that branch, in what little sunshine was available, and sheltered from the breeze.
