I spotted this long-eared owl from my front room sofa (!). The windows face a cul-de-sac which is a very quiet alley in a small-town environment. It was there for two days only. This photo was taken on a cold and frosty morning, the owl roosting in the first soft rays of light. Peaceful.
A new one for me and so very exciting it was. To see this Long Eared Owl sat snoozing was very unexpected. Although some distance away I managed some decent shots through the trees and branches on a somewhat windy day. They are so well camouflaged had it not turned its head I would not have seen...
To get any closer to this owl, I would have had to be able to walk on water, lol, as it was over the other side of a small loch, so it had to be a big crop, also the first L.E.O I have seen.
This is my latest watercolour depicting this beautiful owl..Based on old video material and old photographs taken in the wild close to my village in Northern Greece more than 20 years ago....
