White Morph

Three flight shots today. All taken at the same spot, cruising over some open pampas wetlands. Bridge cameras aren't the best at flight shots, but these three turned out ok, and two of them were my only shots of two of my 80+ lifers that trip. Dark morph Long-winged Harrier. Taken near Eldorado, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.

An uncommon & local breeding bird in Trinidad but like all harriers a joy to watch as it hunts low over the wetlands.

There are two morphs. The pale morph in flight shows almost white underparts as can be seen in the bottom photo, and a white rump. The dark morph, above, is dark below with no obvious white rump.

It has an owl-like face and, when perched, the wing-tips almost reach the end of the tail.
