KC you are right since I experienced the first time I saw the Blue Jay taking a bath it's now an everyday occurrence. These guys have been experiencing the heat as well. A lot of times their mouth is open.
Been waiting to take my best picture of him and still this is good but it doesn't show his plumage much but look at the size of him. Blue Jays in South Carolina are big. They got to be some of the biggest yard birds. Now how can this beautiful bird be related to a Crow?
Magpies - This juvenile had been annoying the hell out of the parent by following it everywhere. If you notice the weight of them both on the branch has snapped it but they haven't yet realised. Taken just as it snapped and on the way down.
I managed to capture these two young Magpies today as they came onto my woodpile in the back yard. They are so smart and aware of everything, you move and they are gone.

I used to teach swimming and this was the first lesson - getting the kids to put their faces in the water and blow bubbles. So maybe that magpie in front on the left is the swim teacher and the others are taking their first lesson ...?
Walking back upriver from the rapids, I saw at least 6 magpies flying down to the river from some trees on the slope. As we came nearer I saw this must be their bathing spot, perhaps a little bend of the bank that has less current, so safer to take a dip, even if you can't swim.
