Usually these guys will do that to round up the young ones but It's a bit early for that so I'm wondering if it is his way of attracting a female. He wound up breaking the branch it is on.

And you can even see its red bely

Well, you can't see much of its red belly but he sure has a vibrant head color ;)

When he spots junior at the other suet feeder.

The last couple of weeks the Woodpecker population has picked up quite a bit. At one point I counted 4 of these guys on different trees.

This adult male was getting ready to go after a juvie at "his" suet feeder.

Once the kids are feeding on their own, the adult male will not allow them anywhere near "his" feeders and more times than not, he will pursue and chase them at a reckless speed. This time, it was just a raised head and a flap of his wings that drove the juvie away. Tough love I guess.

This little woodpecker is either agitated or caught up in the wind.

This little Male Red-bellied Woodpecker has a comical look about him. Is he a juvenile, or just a fuzzy-head? Whatever, I think he is really cute! :)
