Usually these guys will do that to round up the young ones but It's a bit early for that so I'm wondering if it is his way of attracting a female. He wound up breaking the branch it is on.
Once the kids are feeding on their own, the adult male will not allow them anywhere near "his" feeders and more times than not, he will pursue and chase them at a reckless speed. This time, it was just a raised head and a flap of his wings that drove the juvie away. Tough love I guess.
