This Reddish Egret gave me lots of angles... I stopped shooting after it gave me this pose. Photo is not cropped.

    little blue eclipse

I've watch this guy for 9 months now. It is not at all intimidated by me until I get out of my kayak! It's got to be uncomfortable to change colors. It just preened and preened. I got so many in focus shots - It's hard to pick two.

Green heron with a little pot-belly

This adorable, very small green heron (only stood maybe 9" tall) preened when talked to, but really loved whistles.

This one was small - even for a green heron. It was completely unafraid and preened as I talked and whistled to it. It allowed 20+ pictures and was still standing there as I paddled away. (There are some real advantages of birding on a kayak!)
  9. Two Great Blue Herons

    Two Great Blue Herons

These were taken within a few minutes of each other... the same day, same side of the canal, but NOT the same birds!

Great Blue Heron - on the fly

I was taking pictures of a yellow crowned night heron and this bird came flying by! It's just a lucky shot as the backgrounds in this area are almost always full mangroves. However, I like the palm and grasses that are in this one.

Sly-eyed yellow-crowned night heron resting at high tide. It has become so used to me that it preens when I talk to it. This one and its sibling live on a saltwater canal.

My what a long shadow you cast.

Green heron along a canal. I found this one interesting as the bird looked quite sinister with the sunlight casting a long pointed shadow on its chest.

    Ready To Strike

During warmer weather I found this Great Egret all ruffled up and ready to strike. I was just about too close for the picture.

Maybe Anna Pavlova in Swan Lake? I was lucky enough to catch this Great Egret as it made a frilly take off from a marsh.
