The Martial Eagle was arguing with a Tawny Eagle over who should get feasting rights to a dik-dik (very small deer) that was lying dead next to the road. No real contest, but it meant that the Martial Eagle posed for us just 2 m from the road. Fantastic view, and I am so glad I got the shot.
A bird I always hoped to get a close-up of but didn't really expect to. We spotted this one in the distance and stopped to take a few shots. It didn't fly off so we drove closer ,shot some more, closer and closer until we were virtually beside it, maybe 70 metres or less. After taking our fill...
this magnificent eagle had just stolen a scrawny chicken from the Masai village; more of a snack than proper lunch.
Not called 'bellicosus' for nothing....
