  1. Feeding time

    Feeding time

If you look carefully you should see a rather large fish. Some years ago now, the RSPB staff erected a couple of telegraph poles for just this purpose. Prior to that you couldn't really see where they went to feed ... on a tree somewhere probably. They took to these poles immediately. It...
  2. Peacefully passing by

    Peacefully passing by

Completely ignoring all the hirundines buzzing around (it really was busy with them that day!); this Moorhen just seemed to amble past unhurriedly!
  3. Flying over the loch

    Flying over the loch

Mid May and it was warm (though a bit misty) and birds were out in force. If you look carefully at this picture you will see, not only the Lapwing, but some hirundines buzzing around too.... there were loads of them. Following the Lapwing was the only chance I had of trying to get these speedy...
  4. Floating by the flowers

    Floating by the flowers

Back at Kinnordy and the Bog Bean is flowering so beautifully. Couldn't resist showing you yet another swan.... he just seemed to fit in this scene.
  5. May sunset

    May sunset

It was all but dark when I took this picture, so I was rather lucky to get an image. So glad I did though, as I thought the colours were stunning.
  6. Pretty in green

    Pretty in green

Beech seems to be quite late in coming into leaf I think. This wee lady was sitting on one of the stems that had escaped the autumn cut backs!!! TTTW
  7. The heads have it

    The heads have it

I was lucky that another swan came really close to the hide and I was able to get a head shot of him (first time I've managed that LOL).... well without cropping a lot when I've downloaded. This picture didn't take too much cropping.
  8. Grebe with the reeds

    Grebe with the reeds

..... and something else! It's always nice to see a Great Crested Grebe at Loch of the Lowes, as thry're very rarely to be seen at Kinnordy. I spotted this guy swimming along the edge of the reeds and saw he seemed to be heading for a big blob.... another grebe, a nest, or what? Thought a...
  9. Patriotic

    Patriotic

Red, white and blue, don't know why that caption suddenly occurred to me LOL This was only a quick visit to Loch of the Lowes so I was lucky to find a Swan fairly close to the hide as soon as I got there.
  10. Nuts!

    Nuts!

The only other bird of note at the feeders on my short visit that day was a Coal Tit feasting on the peanuts. This was one of the feeders at the back and I was taking it through the glass window, so excuse the poor quality.
  11. Dopey

    Dopey

The next day I headed to Loch of the Lowes to stock up on their peanut butter. Looking out of the feeding station window spotted this rather tired looking Mallard, showing the more unusual violet head colouring.
  12. I wonder.....

    I wonder.....

..... what that is went through my mind when I saw movement above my head. Started clicking, hoping I'd get a clearer view when I downloaded it.... well this was what I first saw, you saw the second picture earlier this week when he was so obliging. Kept this one on for my Saturday Fun image.
  13. Evening colours

    Evening colours

To celebrate the end of my walk, the sky gave me these lovely colours that evening. Judging by the angle, I took this from the kitchen, looking south west. We don't seem to have had too many pretty sunsets this summer for some reason.
  14. Spring cleaner?

    Spring cleaner?

And so to the last picture of my riverside ramble. I only heard very few birds that day, mostly Chiffchaff on the other side of the river! A little further along I came across the clump of Broom. The other side of the road is an industrial estate. Broom seems to have flowers on it most months...
  15. It calls it's name...

    It calls it's name...

..... well sort of LOL Hawthorn blossom is otherwise known as May blossom (at least in Scotland), because it flowers in May. I'd made my way up onto the road to head back towards my car and found this bush almost immediately. You can just see the river below the bottom fence railing on the right.
  16. Remembering

    Remembering

Continuing my riverside walk, I came across a wee patch of Forget-me-nots.... so pretty.
  17. Reflections

    Reflections

I walked right to the end of the path, then down some steps to another path along the bank of the river itself. It's such a peaceful spot. I could hear a Chiffchaff calling, never saw it though - perhaps you can spot it in the trees on the opposite bank!;)
  18. Red Campion

    Red Campion

Think I've got this one right. A very pretty flower, which makes a change from the normal white and yellow spring flowers.
  19. Hot?

    Hot?

Now I've never heard of this flower before - Mustard Garlic? It was kindly identified for me in the forum (thanks Aeshna). It really was very pretty. Apparently it does smell of garlic, but I don't remember noticing.
  20. Dandy

    Dandy

Hope I've got the ID right on this flower, it's a few months since I took it but think that's what I thought at the time. There are a few look-alikes though. That path can look really pretty in the spring.
  21. Tasty

    Tasty

The Wild Garlic was beginning to grow and flower along the footpath, and sending up quite a scent. I think they have such a pretty flower.
  22. Meadow Sweet

    Meadow Sweet

.... well I think it is, it's what I've always called it anyway, though there are some look-alikes. Such a delicate looking lacy plant, lining most of the path.
  23. Cheeky

    Cheeky

.... well they always are, aren't they. Continuing my walk along the river spotted some movement above my head. He was really trying to hide while keeping an eye one me at the same time.
  24. Footpath

    Footpath

A couple of days later, I had a wander along the river path. The two fence stobs on the left are what remains of a fence by a steep drop.... the bank collapsed a bit after the river flooded!! Hope you don't mind, I had a bit of a play with my image programme and the magic wand. Ummmm.... the...
  25. Daddy?

    Daddy?

Wonder if this guy is the father of the adorable ducklings I showed you the other day?
