Raptor ID - Tequesquitengo, Morelos, Mexico - 27/2/21

This raptor landed in a tree having just swiped it‘s prey out of the air (possibly a swallow). It was a long way off so photo clarity is not great. Possibly a juvenile, but really not sure what it is. Seen just near lake Tequesquitengo in Morelos, Mexico, on Saturday 27 February 2021. I have...

Hummingbird ID - Tequesquitengo, Mexico 27/2/21

Saw these hummingbirds in Tequesquitengo, just South of Mexico City, Mexico. 1 & 2 were taken at the same time and 3 & 4 were taken at the same time, but I believe it could be the same bird or same species. The last 3 are the same birds, there were about 5/6 of these small hummingbird roaming...

    Tiny as a butterfly

This tiny little bird was flitting from one flower to another at quite a height. Was photographing to get an ID, but I was lucky to get a decent shot. So many more hummingbirds to see. In case my ID is wrong, please let me know.
  13. Keel-billed Toucan

    Keel-billed Toucan

The problem with living in Scotland - one forgets how to take photographs in places with sunshine! The image was so over exposed that I ignored it until now. Thanks to some clever software (DPP), its back to life.
  14. Great Kiskadee

    Great Kiskadee

I saw many of these beautiful birds in Mexico and all over Central and South America. I love hearing their distinctive song throughout the jungle.
  15. Keel billed toucan

    Keel billed toucan

This is the second toucan I've ever seen in the wild. I spotted him early in the morning on the last day of my trip to Playa Del Carmen. He was such a gift to see! I saw my first toucan in the jungles of Colombia. I love toucans but they are very elusive and hard to spot. I hope to see more...
  16. Yellow-backed oriole

    Yellow-backed oriole

I took this photo in Playa Del Carmen Mexico on a Vacation in the spring time a few years ago. What a handsome bird! I was so happy to see him and get a shot of him in a tree. It's the first oriole I had ever seen in the wild.
  17. Trogon

    Trogon

I think this is a black headed trogon. I saw it in Playa Del Carmen Mexico when on Vacation a few years ago. It is so elegantly beautiful.

Move inland and this one takes over somewhat. Less curve on the culmen and yellow not white wing flashes.
  21. Boucard's Wren

    Boucard's Wren

Sometimes you just find a "happy" bird. This Boucard's Wren was photographed in a thorn forest in the Oaxaca Valley. This was taken shortly after sunrise and he sat on this cactus for several minutes singing his heart out.

    Russet-naped Wood Rail

This beautiful Russet-naped Wood Rail crept out of the mangroves and stayed there for several minutes, while I was able to photograph quietly from a boat. I included this picture in my notes on Celestun, which includes several other birds and a section on how flamingos evolved...
