This is a rare form of the Gabar Goshawk. Only 15% of the population is totally black.

I heard a strange, unsettling call as I was replying to our emails the other day... I looked up from the breakfast table and found this chap staring at me. Presume it's a Gabar Goshawk, rather than a Dark Chanting Goshawk, though it's tricky to tell from this angle. Does anyone know for sure?

I shot this little guy in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park in South Africa. It was taken in the middle of Winter (July). I used a Canon S3is camera with a focal lenght of 37cm, f 5.4 at 1/800th of a second.
This goshawk was seen from the car in Samburu NP in Kenya.
I'm 99% sure it's a Gabar Goshawk. But since I noticed that Gabar Goshawk should have a very dark eye, not red/orange like this one.
