There is a particular spot where this dragon hovers against the sky, making it much easier to snap. Comforting to find it in the same spot every year

This was taken with a GH5 and a PL 100-400mm lens hand-held and manually focused. I used manual focus as the AF in whatever mode I used would focus on the background and not the Dragonfly, very frustrating and it meant I lost shots because of it.

I had gone to Leighton Moss hoping to see the Hobbies which were present for much of the summer but managed to miss them. Some Migrant Hawker dragonflies were however being much more cooperative by frequently perching in the vegetation right in front of one of the hides. (I think my ID is...

The Migrant Hawker gets its name from its habit of migrating long distances, often in huge swarms. I think it is absent from Scotland and Ireland.
