Just back from visiting my daughter and Grandsons in Devon, I hadn't seen them for two years and had lots of catching up to do so didn't have much time for birding But on the way down there I stopped off at Watlington for another super session with the Red Kites on the hill

This Kite had just performed an amazing vertical dive which was way too fast for me I only caught up when it braked hard prior to the final swoop onto it's target

Watlington Hill is a great place to see these beautiful Kites, I counted eighteen in the air at one point, a lot of juveniles among them

    Road kill runaround

So, the local kites have had me literally jumping out of the car, scrambling for the camera & parking really badly .....on two occasions in the last week I've been driving along and seen them swooping down for a roadkill snack. By the time I've got out of the car I've missed it all...

I was on Walbury hill checking out a route for a group of runners when I came across a mixed flock of 40 - 50 red kites and ravens enjoying the thermals.
