This was taken in a patch of land where the ranch owners had uprooted a number of small trees. Quite a few birds were searching for tidbits in the soft dirt. This Northern mockingbird had some luck.
"A medium-sized songbird, a bit more slender than a thrush and with a longer tail. Mockingbirds have small heads, a long, thin bill with a hint of a downward curve, and long legs. Their wings are short, rounded, and broad, making the tail seem particularly long in flight."

Mockingbirds, when they hunt, flush insects by flashing the large white spots on their wings. I watched this guy hunt for several minutes, very interesting.

One morning this week we were photographing birds in Anastasia State Park when Lydia spotted an adult Mockingbird feeding its fledgling. I was able to capture this picture of the feeding.
