Photographed on a wet morning on the road in front of our house. They are seen around here since the onset of monsoons resulting in thick undergrowth. Surely, there must be snakes around.
The Mongoose was introduced to Okinawa in 1910 to control the venemous Habu Snake population. The problem is: Mongooses dine during daylight hours and Habu are a nocturnal snake !
This young chap was fearless or stupid, depends on how you look at it. He spotted me and casually walked in front of my vehicle then stopped and stared at me.......so I took his picture.
I spotted this mongoose just a few feet away from me in the grass. Although I knew he was there, there were times when he just blended in with the background.
These are quite common here in Bahrain, but hard to get close... This time luckily got very close to a pair. (less than 2 meters)
