These waterbirds feeds alone and they could be in a gang of few other birds. In other times I think the breeding season, they were seen with their family until the chicks reached a fair size. Not often, a picture of a pair all alone by themselves without the crowd of other Moorhen.
I'm intrigued by the way this bird takes to this spot in the branches just above the water. I've seen it there before.
Perhaps it is boooking a spot for a nest - when it gets warmer!
This poor old chap has fishing line around the ankle of his right foot and it has cut in deep so he walks with a limp. I fed him up well yesterday and today. I hope he makes it.
We went to Lackford Lakes hoping to find some Kingfishers but, on the day, the perches were deserted and this young Moorhen was the only sign of life. Ron
