Up in a tree beside the path Peter spotted a Musk Lorikeet for me.
He was very actively feeding in the branches so it was really quite difficult to get a clear shot of his head, let alone the rest of his body LOL.
Another Life bird for the day of course.
However, I did rather like the cheeky...
Hi all, this guy came in with a flock of Rainbow Lorikeets yesterday morning and was surveying the area. This species has only been sighted here at the kitchen window a couple of times so a great surprise for me. Do hope you like it
I cannot believe that I've not uploaded this image before. It was taken about the same time as the other Musk Lorikeets. Prints have gone into seven local art shows, it has never won a prize, but I like it.
As we left the lawn with the Fairywrens and the surrounding trees with the Scrubwren and two other lifers (Yellow Thornbill, Golden Whistler) that I didn't get shots of, we passed a small copse by the parking lot and noticed some bright birds very busily foraging in the trees there. Musk...
For a few days we had a flock of Musk Lorikeets coming to the birdbath. Daytime temperatures were +/-40degC so they came in several times a day to drink.
The bird surveys of the Mt Lofty Ranges around Adelaide are in full swing again, so I'm off two or three mornings every week to some of the 180 sites that we visit. This turned up at one of them the other day.
I got so excited for me I was just out taking photos of the lorikeets having their daily dip and drink when all of a sudden I saw in the view finder a lorikeet that has never visited or ever seen before I got a snap just while it was flying off a musk lorikeet I googled it hehe yoo hoo hope he...
Every two years or so our flowering gum tree has a bumper crop of blooms and hence lorikeets. Mainly the Musk Lorikeet (in the picture) but regularly the Rainbow Lorikeet, but I like theses best.
G'day all.... Sorry I've missed you all for a while....
Sitting in our yard a few weeks ago, this Must Lorikeet was enjoying the feast of our bottlebrush. One of our favourite birds, but have never seen then in this tree before.
A really pleasant evening - until 4 minutes after this snap, the...
This Musk Lorikeet is not the best capture, but was my best. It has been "recovered" a little by photoshop, as the fog was so thick I could barely see the bird with the naked eye, and had no idea at the time what I was photographing other than silhouette! An unusual experience for me...
This bird is a cousin of the rainbow lorikeet. Much smaller in size & has a higher pitch call. They are heard in the top of tall trees. It is a rare sight for me and this one came down for a drink.
Was driving along with a friend and we came across this 'new' park (for me at least) so decided to try it out for birds. Turned out to be a good area and we saw lots of Musk Lorikeets but I managed just this one shot. If for nothing else, I must return to find out what this place is called !
I'm back to my Lorikeets! Yesterday when I had arrived at a house in Melton to give a lesson I was confronted with about 5 Rainbow Lorikeets hanging around in the tree on the nature strip and sitting on the wires but sadly I didn't have my camera as it was a heavy workload and no time for birds...
