    Family outing

There's an island not far from the hide which this Mute Swan family seemed to be heading for. Quite well grown cygnets too.

    Under escort

It seemed that the Mallards had surrounded the Mute Swan to escort him away (or keep him safe from marauders), though what they thought they could do is another matter!! A scene from the hide at Loch of the Lowes.

    Not very mute!

I took my brother and sister-in-law off to the Forest of Dean on the Friday, for a weekend house party, consisting of some relatives and friends to celebrate a big birthday. En route we stopped at Monmouth and sat down by the river Wye for a while. A Mute Swan pair were swimming around and it...

    Young about

Of course Kinnordy (and the birds) didn't let us down by providing some youngsters. A Mute Swan swam past the hide leading her group of little cygnets - they look very young, so I don't think they're long hatched.

Like ships passing in the night

One of many pictures I've taken when a species shows itself in the image that I didn't know was there!! I was taking the Mute Swan in flight but on preparing the image for posting here I spotted the Grey Heron in the background - at least I presume it's a heron, I can't see much detail...

There were a few Mute Swan about that afternoon; didn't see any pairs though, so presumably the females were on nests. I rather like the colours in this image.

    Not impressed

A Mute Swan was play-acting beside a couple of mates... but they don't seem to be enjoying the fun as much as he was. A rather distant view at Kinnordy in September. Saturday Fun
