One of those times when the light was perfect , in range but just a fraction high in the sky to get the shot I really wanted .

I love the soft colouration of these birds. He wasn't too worried about me as he searched for breakfast on the lake edge.

As it's name says, this is a nocturnal heron, so not often seen flying about. I was lucky to see this one perched in a tree beside the Nepean River.

Shallow waters rivers, wetlands,floodwaters.

A early rise and a trip to a nearby Lake brought the reward of this Heron
