Despite its bright colors, this bird was well concealed, high in the branches of a tree and in deep shade. All I could get is an overhead view of the bird.
Only two species of the Trogon group are present in East Africa. My only encounter with the group was a glimpse of a back view of a Narina Trogon in a dark forest. A bit of the bright red underside barely shows in this photo.
Aren't they related to the Guatemalan Quetzal, the trogons, no? Beautiful birds, this one I captured in the Aberdare / Nyeri area, Kenya.
