It's hard to believe that this calm water is (admittedly in a bay) the North Atlantic. I like the way in which we get to see the face of the bird from below, and the traces of the previous `hops' from the bird's taking off.
We often had fulmars accompanying us on the open ocean. Most of them didn't float quite so close to us though. (This is the Pacific form of the species.)
I was to have gone to the Isle of May but the trip was cancelled due to strong easterly winds & an incoming storm over the North Sea.
I went to Fife Ness instead & watched the bad weather roll in -this Fulmar was riding the storm!
