This delicate warbler often sings from high in the canopy where they can be difficult to see or photograph. It is pronounced "PAR-a-la" or "PAR-ya-la," not "par-U-la." One of North America's smallest warblers, females such as this usually have a faint chest band. The olive wash on the nape...

Northern Parula visiting my home on its way south, having just tried to come through the window, it took a moment to consider why that didn't work before preening a bit and moving on.

    Northern Parula

This one is showing the chestnut breast band typical of adult males. Formerly included with the Tropical Parula in the genus "Parula," both were moved to the genus "Setophaga" in 2011 (52nd AOU Check-List Supplement). Although based on genetics, this decision loses the distinctiveness of these...

Immature females such as this have a greenish-olive wash on their head and back. They also lack the chestnut breast band of the adult males. Formerly included with the Tropical Parula in the genus "Parula," both were moved to the genus "Setophaga" in 2011 (52nd AOU Check-List Supplement)...

    Northern Parula with a snack

He was backlit and in shadow so he was nothing more than a silhouette in the original photo. I tried to lighten him up, he's pretty grainy but now at least you can tell what he is. His captured fly made for a fun pic though.

    Northern Parula

Northern Parula. I might be concentrating on these birds and the Yellow Rumped Warblers while they're here. Both birds usually show up for the blossoming of the Norway Maple in our yard, and when that's over they leave. I'm also keeping my eye out for B&W Warblers.

    Northern Parua?

Been very busy with some major home improvements, so haven't had much time to visit bird forum or even pick up the camera much this summer so far. But did manage a few shots. I'll have to check the ID on this little bird, but think it's a Northern Parula.

    Bath Time Too

This Northern Parula looks quite indignant! Possibly doesn't like me invading her privacy.
