    Japanese White-eye (Mejiro)

Saw this little guy hanging upside down feeding on the nectar from Cherry blossoms. My girlfriend Iku and I were at the Cherry blossom festival in northern Okinawa.

    Light-vented (Chinese) Bulbul

Twenty years ago, this bird was limited to the southern tip of Okinawa. Now they're common all over the island and considered a pest by farmers due to their raids on pineapple fields. Pest ot not, still quite a handsome bird!

    Pied Avocet

A pair of these beautiful birds spent most of the winter here allowing me to get some good shots. I borrowed a friends lens (thanks Chip!) for a week and made the drive down past Naha to get shots of Black-Faced Spoonbills, these were "bonus" birds!

I was driving along a small street near a golf course and saw a large Chinese Banyan tree thick with birds. Most were Bulbuls (Red-Cheeked and Chinese) with some Grey Starlings as well. I stopped for...
  9. White-Breasted Waterhen

    White-Breasted Waterhen

These are very vocal birds making a resonating call in the evenings. Easily spooked from their hiding, they will dash into the nearest cover. I caught this one out foraging and he was starting to head for cover! Japanese Name: Shiroharakuina
