ortolan bunting

So glad I saw this one, even if I only got rather distant views. Hadnt seen an ortolan bunting since at least 15 years, theyre very rare in our local area, certainly also due to centuries of gastronomic cruelties committed against these poor birds in this country.

from the same day i took the blackstart shot, but this is a migrant bird, lots of them are around these days. Hope you like it.

Needed a bit of a lift today, so have reverted to a couple more from my Algarve trip. Couldn't get any closer to this fella hence a quie heavy crop, very enjoyable though to watch him freshen up in this small spring on a lovely hot afternoon............oh if only! Pepe
