    My first otter

I've been wanting to see one for as long as I can remember, thrilled that my first ever sighting was such a great view - close up and a full minute long!

Are otters habitually attracted to outdoor ponds? Do otters invade towns?

Hello folks! I have a question concerning outdoor ponds and otters. We had considered building a pond in our yard for ornamental purposes as well as to attract wildlife. Whether or not we stock the pond with fish is really dependent on the wildlife we intend to attract. Ponds without fish seem...

I probably should have uploaded this one under mammals, but there IS a bird in there ;) Also, the otter was "stealing" a fish that the fisherman (whom we met on shore) actually put out there for the White-tailed Eagles.

  12. River otter in the duckweed

    River otter in the duckweed

This curious little fellow kept popping up closer and closer to me, disappearing below the duckweed then popping up again - until it finally popped up right on the shore, walked up onto the levee just 10 feet from me, turned around and waggled its bum and tail at me, then jumped back in the water.

River otter popping up to eat

I followed a family of 3 otters goofing off, rolling in the sand, then swimming along the bank diving down for crawfish...which they'd pop up like this to chew on their meal and watch me watching them

Playful, smart, and larger cousin of the weasel, they're all around Florida's bodies of fresh water but not always easy to get a photograph of them!

We went for a walk on Arran last year, and horizontal rain ensued (imagine...). On the way back I was walking along the shore (I'm always last back, as I often just stop and stand still, waiting to see what's about), when I saw something moving on a rock quite a bit out to sea. I thought it...

We had hoped it would come out of the water but no luck. It kept popping up a fair way offshore so this shot in very heavily cropped
  18. Saturday fun....

    Saturday fun....

or.... I had no idea I suppose this isn't really a funny shot, but am poking fun at myself for my lack of observation. I was trying to take pictures of the Lapwings on the bog bean. They didn't turn out too well really, so after I'd downloaded them, started to delete them. When suddenly...

    Otter & Wrasse

A completely unexpected photo opportunity. I was standing on a stormy beach at Mousehole, Cornwall just before Xmas looking for seabirds when I saw what I thought was initially a seal in the distance. However it was an Otter, which swam to shore, then took it's meal into a rocky breakwater.
