This guy was in a large concrete, hollow structure sticking out of the ground. Surprisingly, there was a Say's Phoebe building a nest just 5 feet above this owl!
The word got out that a snowy owl was seen during the daylight hours at the Muskegon (Michigan) Water Treatment Plant about 30 minutes from my house. I ventured out the next morning and found him right out in the middle of an open field!
The Torotoroka Scops Owl (Otus madagascariensis) is endemic to Madagascar. This owl is hiding during the day in a plant in the Didiereaceae family, also endemic to the Spiny Forest ecosystem of south and southwest Madagascar.

This Southern Boobook has been calling on and off at a property in NW Sydney where we keep our horse. Since I visit the place every evening, I have managed to photograph the owl the last two evenings. He has been very obliging. :-)

Photographed in the middle of Sydney. Really. This pair was really accepting of photographers leading up to their nesting period. Many an evening were spent photographing some great behaviour, including mating.
