The Pallid Harrier in the Dunsop Valley, Forest of Bowland on 2nd May 2017. Lovely to watch as it called and skydanced and later added material to a nest. A first for me.
Very distant pallid harrier. It was sitting out in the open on the other side of the valley, but even with the 2x extender on the 600mm lens, it's a huge crop.
Not the easiest to ID at the best of times and we only get them during the summer months in South Africa when you are most likely to see them on the wing and rarely as confiding as this one.
I have decided upon 2nd or 3rd year Pallid Harrier. Any comments on the ID?
After watching a lioness come for a drink at a waterhole in Etosha National Park, we drove off and returned to yet another surprise, when this Pallid Harrier did a fly by. I could have managed a few nice perching shots if an ever persistent black-backed jackal didn't keep chasing the harrier off.
