One of the beautiful partridge around Peninsular Malaysia. Sightings were easy previously however, in recent months, the species is getting harder to see.
sometimes known as Malay Partridge, Campbell's Hill Partridge and Grey-breasted Partridge.

This beautiful male came for a drink at the fountain of a deserted chapel and was caught unaware! After eyeing me up for a couple of minutes and having considered his options, he decided to depart, but not too quickly! As if saying "I could have stayed, you know"!
Had two coveys of Partridges one of 8 the other of 11 feeding in front of me yesterday, the group of 8 were the closest from 5 to 8yrds off me, the biggest problem I had was "what one do I go for first"...lol.
A very approachable bird which sat on the grass verge for several minutes and then decided to wander into the path of a van. Luckily I got the driver to slow down and it flew off into a field. These birds used to be bred for shooting in this area (West Kent) but are not often seen now.
At times the terrain and the subject are not cooperative. I tried stalking this Francolin but it refused to give a clean shot. I ended up shooting it through grass. I like the end product...
Whilst not a genuine UK species, having originally been introduced as a game species, one can only admire the delicate plumage and markings of such a striking bird.
See, not everything that comes out of France is rotten!
