In 2013 we had a trip back to the UK to visit family and friends. While we were staying in Yorkshire, our friends recommended visiting the Nosterfield Local Nature Reserve, a small reserve a few miles away. Plenty of birds as well as butterflies.
I was initially disappointed when a Peacock Butterfly I was shooting folded its wings but then I saw the detail of the underside. Not really seen this before...
Thank you for your very nice comments on my image of a stonechat.Today I am posting a picture of a butterfly. The trouble with butterflies is that they often land in 'messy' settings. I think I've got better shots of a peacock butterfly than this one but their backdrop is awful.
Not my best ever shot of this butterfly but this is my first butterfly image this year. I saw it yesterday as I walked along the coastal path near Vannes, together with a white butterfly and a spckled wood. On the distant mudflats ,I also saw godwits, spoonbills, shelducks ,brent geese ,mallards...
At least I think it's a Peacock, judging by the little I could see of the underwing - it didn't get any better than that view.
He was right at the top of a Buddleia bush in my brother's garden.
I knew you had to get a picture of the underwing to prove the ID of a butterfly. But not sure how much use this one is LOL
However, there wasn't anything else it could have been from the top side.
At least I tried.
I saw far more butterflies than birds along this section of the canal, and as I wasn't very fit, I didn't manage to get too far on this trip.
Here's a couple of beautiful peacocks, they had me a bit confused with the orange coloured wings, but suppose that must just be the angle of light...
Some bright colours to cheer us up. This butterfly was warming itself up on a stone in the garden. It didn't move when I came closer to take this photo.
Spent days trying for a decent shot of this beauty, she posed at the tip of the flower head,so that there was a clear background, just very lucky and a defo "one off"!!!!
