At Eagle Marsh, Fort Wayne, IN. Annual visitor. Very difficult, for me, in the conditions yesterday, to have my phone's shutter speed fast enough to get sharp pics, and still have enough light to turn out fair. Tons of the birds there right now.
This bird was foraging in a fresh water marsh in the tundra of the Canning River delta. It was nesting at the other end of the marsh. As you can see, it was difficult to find a "window" in the marsh sedges through which to view this bird.
Here is a third image of a Shorebird in a harvested agricultural field. The field has been fertilized with liquid dairy manure, after harvest. There were four birds here this day, but 15 of this species the day before. (Hey ! At least it wasn't hog manure !)
Here is a second image of a Shorebird in a harvested agricultural field. This species is somewhat scarce and I believe a good fraction are never seen in this habitat.
The same (only) Pectoral Sandpiper being harrassed by a Red-kneed Dotterel. There was a large number of Dotterel in the area being quite aggressive to other shorebirds.
Having just returned from our cruise, we received word that a couple of rare waders had been sighted in our area. A quick trip and we found this Pectoral Sandpiper. The Michael Morecombe Field Guide refers to this bird as a "regular uncommon visitor to Australia". I had a quick look...
This is the second Pectoral Sandpiper to show up on my Patch this one only 500M from my House,
makes you wonder what happens to these birds its doutful if they could make the return journey to America best of luck to them they will need it.
