    Is the coast all clear?

It was fun watching this Pheasant keep popping his head up to see who or what dangers were about, not knowing he was being watched

    Cake - What cake?!

I thought the peanut cake I had put on the bird table was going down rather rapidly - this chap was the culprit - it nearly demolished the lot - including the table!

This is what happens when stumbling upon a male Pheasant with a 500 lens 1.4X T/C (only removed some pixels to the left). The bird think I am too close to dare moving, so it stands still behind a thin bush for 5 minutes. Have to back off to be able to focus (and as a confidence- building...

    Well, why not?

I don't ever seem to see pictures of Pheaant - perhaps no one likes them - they are a bit stupid. Living in the country I spend most of my time trying not to run over them. But they are rather beautiful and I took this picture when walking by the canal the other morning.

It's amazing that these birds ever survive, considering how colourful they are. Fabulous birds to look at, especially close up, to appreciate the different patterns.

    Is the coast clear?

Driving home yesterday saw this cock bird in a field, practicing an emergency stop tried to get a reasonable shot of it as it overcame its shyness to take a peek to see if I'd gone. Not the sharpest shot

    Leggit!! There's a fox about!

This pheasant didn't stay around long as a fox was prowling the area. It soon legged it, way before I spotted the incoming hunter.

    The final walk? (Bad thumbnail)

The rural sbirdlife here is shaped by man. Mass breeding and release of pheasant and other game birds and a brief and presumably pleasant life before the shoot. We got home after this birding trip to find a brace of pheasant hanging from the garage door- a present from a well intentioned hunter.
