    Attracted to a colourful tree

One bird I did manage to capture at our next stop was a Noisy Friarbird hunting for some nectar.
  3. Quiet for once

    Quiet for once

Back at home there was a Noisy Friarbird having a drink.

    Traffic Warden

Heading back along the front, we stopped in a car park for a coastal reserve. Up in the tree tops around the car park I spotted this Noisy Friarbird (lurking quietly!
  5. Silent for once

    Silent for once

As we wandered along the coastal path, with the most stunning views, I spotted this Noisy Friarbird in one of the trees. That little bump on top of the bill is a dead giveaway ID feature. Aren't the snowflakes lovely. Gave me a bit of a shock when I first saw them, thought there was...

    Got the hump

Of all the honeyeaters, friarbirds are fairly easy to identify with the little bump on the bill. Though due to the shadow, it's not too clear in this picture. This is a Noisy Friarbird one of two species I saw.

    Baldy

I thought this was a really attractive tree to find this Noisy Friarbird in (especially as, although interesting), they're not really the prettiest of honeyeaters. You maybe don't realise that their heads are actually black skin, they have bald heads with no feathering!

    Bumped his nose

Back at home the birds were lining up in the garden now. Firstly this Noisy Friarbird, remember he's the one with the little knob on the top of his bill.

We were then making our way back towards the city but called in at the Federation Walk Coastal Reserve. We then went for a wander along a trail into the woodland but the birds seemed to be all in hiding due to the midday heat. Back in the car park I spotted this Noisy Friarbird up a tree, so...
  11. Keeping quiet

    Keeping quiet

A Noisy Friarbird paid a quick visit to the garden, but didn't come down for any water or food at that point anyway. I only got the one image of him up in a tree.
  12. In case you....

    In case you....

.... didn't really believe that friarbirds are honeyeaters, here's one taking nectar from a Banksia flower. We'd just emerged from the coastal path and were about to join civilisation in the village.
  13. Preacher?

    Preacher?

I'd just taken some pictures of that lovely view, turned round to continue with the walk when this Noisy Friarbird was seen up in a tree.

Lifer's still coming think and fast.... Ken spotted this Noisy Friarbird up in a tree as we made our way back through the woodland. For those who don't know these birds, the give-away ID feature is the knob on top of the upper mandible.
