Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 15m.
This is a new species for us. Almost dismissed it as another LBJ at a distance, so really glad I asked the ID'ing experts in these forums.
Taken near the Sundial Bridge (Redding, CA, USA).
Another one of those "we see them near the house, but it's somehow different photographing one 200 miles from home."
Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 10m.
I find these particular little birds very pretty despite the very simple color scheme.
As I approached the shed this morning, this was the first of the pair of Phoebes who tried to distract me from coming closer. He flew to the horse pasture fence and started watching me. Since he seemed to be the braver one of the two, I am assuming he was the male.
This is the same bird in my previous shot that was "acting coy". I'm including this shot because it shows the fully dark bill, distinguishing it from the Eastern Pewee, on which the lower mandible is light-colored. Also, the wing markings show up better.
